As performer, I love and enjoy performing! Literally, my first stage experience was at the age of 6. As a Malaysian Chinese, after obtaining my first Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Chemistry, my natural instinct tells me to get a job – a decent paying job, climb the corporate ladder; And if time permits, pursue my hobby of performing. So I did. I enrolled in a master’s study in the pharmacy school in USM. Not long did I realize that my hobby is really important to me. I crave the stage and the spotlight. That’s when I decided that I needed to pursue the arts and not the science researches.

I started performing actively in KL & Penang in 2011. Switching from laboratory chemistry to real-life human chemistry is not easy. I self-trained through teaching drama. Little did I know that after 6 months of teaching, I found a new calling – using drama to help my students to build confidence!

When did you start Newman Drama?

Officially, 2014.

Why do you create Newman Drama?

After years of providing drama classes in the Klang Valley, I didn’t more convincing that teaching drama is really what I’m passionate and good at (apart from performing, of course). Thus the discussion with my (life) partner, John (Newman) on creating a brand for my drama classes ensued. And WA-La… Newman Drama was born!

What excites you when you go to Newman Drama classes?

Knowing that our students are ready to break boundaries with us! In every class, with the syllabus as a guide for the lesson, we also encourage our learners to explore within the comfortable and safe boundaries to achieve new levels. Teachers do the same too!

What makes you happy during Newman Drama classes?

Seeing our students excel and employ the confident speaking skills and tools we give them in all areas of their lives, even outside the drama class! Say for confident speaking, when I see my students holding an effective conversation with others outside the class. I’m thrilled!
